HELIDECK ASSISTANT (HDA) TRAINING

Course Description: The aim of the Helideck Assistant (HDA) training is to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and practical competence required to safely perform the duties of a Helideck Assistant (HDA) during offshore helicopter operations, supporting the Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) in ensuring safe aircraft movements, passenger handling, cargo operations, and emergency response on offshore helidecks. 

Course Duration: 2 Days

  • Course Objectives: By the end of the HDA training, participants should be able to:
  • Explain the roles and responsibilities of a Helideck Assistant (HDA) during offshore helicopter operations.
  • Recognize helicopter hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Prepare the helideck for safe helicopter landing and take-off operations.
  • Conduct pre-arrival, arrival, departure, and post-departure helideck checks.
  • Demonstrate effective radio communication and standard hand signals used during helicopter operations.
  • Safely manage passengers, baggage, cargo, and dangerous goods.
  • Assist in helicopter refueling operations in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Select and correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE) for helideck operations.
  • Respond effectively to helideck emergencies, including aircraft incidents, fire, fuel spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Demonstrate safe teamwork and coordination with the Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO), flight crew, and offshore personnel.
