HELICOPTER LANDING OFFICER (HLO) TRAINING

Course Description: The aim of this HLO training course is to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely and effectively perform the duties of a Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) at offshore and onshore helidecks. 

The course equips participants with the competence to coordinate helicopter movements, maintain helideck safety, manage passenger operations, respond to emergencies, and comply with applicable aviation and offshore safety standards.

Course Duration: 2 Days

Course Objectives: By the end of the HLO training, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the roles, responsibilities, and legal obligations of a Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO).
  • Conduct pre-arrival and pre-departure helideck inspections.
  • Prepare the helideck for safe helicopter landing and take-off operations.
  • Coordinate helicopter arrivals, departures, and ground movements safely.
  • Apply effective radio communication and standard aviation phraseology.
  • Manage passengers, baggage, cargo, and dangerous goods in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Identify helideck hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Perform weather monitoring and assess environmental conditions affecting helicopter operations.
  • Respond effectively to helicopter emergencies, including crashes, fires, fuel spills, and ditching incidents.
  • Coordinate emergency response with offshore emergency teams.
  • Demonstrate the correct use of helideck firefighting and rescue equipment.
  • Maintain operational records and complete required HLO documentation.
  • Comply with international aviation regulations, offshore standards, and company procedures.
